Attorneys are pushing back against Trump's DEI order, affirming their programs are legal. Despite challenges from conservative activists and actions in states like Florida, the legal profession largely maintains DEI's crucial role in achieving equity.

According to a recent Reuters article published on January 23, 2025 titled, ”Attorney groups push back against Trump DEI order,” state bar associations are making clear that their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs are not illegal, discriminatory, or using preferential treatment toward any persons within the legal profession. However, conservative activists like Edward Blum, will continue to challenge DEI programs in the American Bar Association (ABA) and across the legal landscape. These attacks are not new, and are the next iteration of attempts to dismantle programs designed to achieve equity and inclusion in the legal profession, an industry dominated by White men since its inception here in the United States. It’s important to note that some states, like Florida, have already rolled back DEI efforts and may have also stopped funding for those types of programs, all under the false pretense and debunked notion that DEI is unfair and discriminatory.
